The California Golden Bears picked up a big commitment on Saturday afternoon as talented wide receiver Jordan Payton gave his pledge to the program. At 6'2" and somewhere around 200 pounds, Payton has excellent size for the receiver position. He is rated four stars by most major services, and is widely ranked as one of the top-20 receivers in the country.
Many teams had shown interest in Payton, including the Michigan Wolverines and Notre Dame Fighting Irish, but neither school could offer him what California could: a chance to stay home and play in front of friends and family. A senior at Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, Payton will play most of his games in the Golden State, which was obviously a huge advantage the Bears had over other teams.
This is a big get for Jeff Tedford and Payton will likely see at least some playing time in 2012. Welcome to the program, kid.
