Ellis McCarthy gave a commitment to Cal at the US Army All-American Game, and it seemed to be one of the crowning victories for Tosh Lupoi to score one for the California Golden Bears over the UCLA Bruins. McCarthy is the prototypical defensive lineman, a gamechanger for whatever program lands him.
But with Lupoi gone to Washington, it was clear that McCarthy's commitment wasn't likely to stick. And it didn't.
Bruins just received the commitment from five-star phenom DT, Ellis McCarthy from Monrovia, Calif.

Even though McCarthy had made his commitment to Cal earlier, it was never considered a firm one and the LA schools always figured they were in the mix to get him. The USC Trojans probably still aren't done courting McCarthy, as Ed Orgeron is likely to work hard on trying to land his primary target from this class. But he's not likely to head back to Cal.
