Cal Basketball Recruiting: Dominic Artis Shines At LeBron James Skills Academy

Cal basketball is looking to land a strong 2012 recruiting class after a nondescript 2011 class of two. One of their primary targets is point guard Dominic Artis, who could be one of the top points in the nation when all is said and done. Artis is currently showcasing his abilities at the LeBron James Skills Academy, and everyone is starting to take notice. Reggie Rankin and Dave Telep of ESPN have more on Artis.

Artis is a true point guard who the defense better guard because he can make it pay with his ability to shoot the ball. He could be a bit more vocal when he runs the team, but he always shows up to compete. Artis is stable and dependable and plays with heart. He has speed and quickness to make plays with the clock winding down. When he is on the floor you never have to wonder where the lead guard is. Artis said his list consists of California, UCLA, Oregon and Florida State.

Artis is reportedly one of those players that Mike Montgomery has been following very closely the past few years, so that might win him over to the Bears at the end of the recruiting cycle. However, Artis might be starting to pick up the national buzz (particularly now that he's transferring to a national program like Findlay Prep), and ride it to some stellar D-I offers. UCLA has already extended its hand, and Oregon isn't too far behind. This is one recruiting battle many Cal fans would like to see Monty win to feel reassured of the direction of the basketball program.
