Cal Football Vs. Arizona State Score: Golden Bears Up 17-14 Early In High-Scoring Game

The Caifornia Golden Bears and the Arizona St. Sun Devils have decided defense was optional tonight when they decided to tee off on Friday night. With neither team playing for anything too significant, both seem to be willing to put the points up.

Cal decided to get it going first. Zach Maynard connected with Keenan Allen on two quick strikes, and Allen hurdled and scampered for a 34 yard gain. That set up a Giorgio Tavecchio 48 yard field goal to put Cal up 3-0. ASU came right back on the next drive, with Cameron Marshall picking up the majority of the yards (37 of the 80 on the drive), including the touchdown run.

Cal then scored the next two touchdowns. Maynard had a 25 yard rush and a completion to Spencer Hagan for 11 yards. Isi Sofele had two big runs of 17 and 18 to give Cal back the lead. Mychal Kendricks forced a fumble on the first ASU play from scrimmage, and Maynard scored soon on another zone-read keeper after to put Cal up 17-7.

ASU came right back on the next drive as Brock Osweiler connected with Rashad Ross twice for 37 yards and 13 yards (once on a 4th and 10). Osweiler then found Aaron Pflugrad for 17 yards to cut the lead to three.
