Women's College Basketball Rankings, Preseason: Stanford Ranked 5th, Cal On The Fringe

The Stanford Cardinal have remained the preeminent college basketball power for quite some time in the Bay Area, and nothing appears to be changing this season. Stanford is ranked 5th in both the AP and Coaches/USA Today Polls, and are likely to be the overwhelming favorites to win everything in the Pac-12 of note. They also have a good chance  to get another number one seed if someone ahead of them (Baylor, Notre Dame, Tennessee, UConn) trips up.

The California Golden Bears are trying to recover with a new head coach and get back to the NCAA Tournament after two WNIT seasons. Cal is hanging just outside each of the top 25, ranked 32nd in the AP Poll and 33rd in the Coaches Poll.
