You'd suspect that with all the resulting suspensions to the UCLA Bruins football corps that the California Golden Bears would come into Los Angeles as overwhelming favorites. But that's not the case. Despite Cal coming off its strongest showing of the season and UCLA looking totally ragged, the Golden Bears opened up as six point favorites and have seen that line drop to 5.5, five, even 4.5 in some sportsbooks.
It makes sense that this line is low. Despite UCLA's inconsistency on offense and defense, Cal has yet to prove they're ready this season to win big road contests. It's clear that Vegas doesn't trust Cal quite yet to blow out opponents on the road--their only road victory of the season came against a putrid Colorado team in overtime. Cal has a lot that it needs to show to prove that they're ready to win Pac-12 games on a regular basis.
