Cal to add Barry Sacks to defensive coaching staff, per report

Newly-hired defensive coordinator Andy Buh will add Nevada assistant Barry Sacks to the California Golden Bears' defensive coaching staff.

A day after it was announced that the California Golden Bears' defense will be coached by former Wisconsin assistant Andy Buh, the Football Scoop staff reports that Buh will bring Nevada assistant Barry Sacks onto his coaching staff.

Buh coached with Sacks at Nevada from 2010-11. Sacks was the defensive line coach this past season after serving in various other roles at Nevada for the past 11 years. He has familiarity with the Bay Area, serving as the defensive coordinator for the AFL's San Jose Sabercats in 2001 and as an assistant at San Jose State from 1998-2000.

Buh was hired by new head coach Sonny Dykes, it was announced Wednesday. He will run a 4-3 base defense that is similar to the one he learned at Stanford from 2007-09 under coach Jim Harbaugh. That defense is one that Sacks is familiar with, as it was the same he coached while at Nevada with Buh.
