The Oakland A's control their own destiny when it comes to locking up the final wild card spot with three games left in the 2012 season.
The Athletics (91-68) have a three-game advantage on both the Los Angeles Angels and the Tampa Bay Rays to start the week so they'll need one more win to get their Wild Card spot. Oakland also still has an outside shot at winning the division if they can sweep the Texas Rangers (93-66) at home to close out the 162-game schedule.
The Angels will have to have a road sweep of the Seattle Mariners while the Rays will be looking to do the same against the Baltimore Orioles at home if they're both to have any hope at the final spot.
If Oakland wins the Wild Card, they will face either the New York Yankees or the Orioles Friday in a one-game, winner takes all matchup to open postseason play in the American League. If they manage to steal the division, they'll face either the Tigers or the winner of the AL East in a five game series.
