The San Francisco 49ers opened as three-point favorites for their playoff game against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday. The line has moved to 2.5 points at about half of the online sportsbooks and stayed at three in the other half. The over/under for the game is set at 45 points.
The 49ers and Packers have similar records coming into this game, with San Francisco finishing a half-game better during the regular season at 11-4-1, compared to 11-5 for Green Bay. Both teams went 9-7 against the spread during the season, but the Packers come in a bit hotter having won five of their last six games, and beating the spread in each victory including a playoff win over the Vikings last week. The 49ers, meanwhile, are coming off two straight games in which they failed to cover, but did beat the Packers 30-22 when they met in Week One.
Green Bay offers an interesting matchup for the 49ers as the Packers feature an explosive offense that averaged 27.1 points per game, fifth best in the league. It will certainly test the second-ranked San Francisco defense that only allowed 17.1 points per game. When they have the ball the 49ers will utilize their fourth-ranked rushing offense (155.7 yards per game) against a defense that finished 17th against the run (118.5 yards per game allowed).
