San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday after sustaining a concussion in the first quarter of the 24-24 tie against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, according to 49ers beat writer Cam Inman.

Smith wore a black jersey, which signifies that a player cannot be touched, during the 49ers' Wednesday session. He has been cleared for non-contact drills and looks on track to at least practice on a limited basis beginning Thursday.
Smith was injured after he took a blow to the head early in the game. He continued to play and even completed a touchdown strike to Michael Crabtree before the symptoms, that included blurred vision, began to affect his play.He was taken out in the second quarter and replaced by second-year backup Colin Kaepernick.

The 49ers take on the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football in Week 11, so Smith will have extra time to rest before the decision comes down regarding his status for the game.
