Rams vs. 49ers score update: San Francisco still down 17-7 entering fourth quarter

The San Francisco 49ers were unable to make up any ground on the Rams in the third quarter, as they trail St. Louis 17-7 going into the final quarter of play.

Backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick was largely ineffective after replacing Alex Smith, who suffered a concussion in the second quarter and will not return. Kaepernick is 2/7 for 14 yards passing and has an additional 14 yards rushing.

The Rams ate up a large chunk of the third quarter with a 16 play, 60 yard drive that consumed over eight minutes of playing time. The possession ended with a 27 yard field goal by kicker by Greg Zuerlein.

San Francisco was only able to muster one offensive series for the quarter. Wide receiver Michael Crabtree remains the 49ers' top threat with 59 yards and a touchdown reception. San Francisco has been outgained in total yards 279 to 183 on the day.
