The San Francisco 49ers waived outside linebacker Eric Bakhtiari on Monday, according to a report from CSN Bay Area.
Bakhtiari, a rookie out of the University of San Diego, was signed to fill the roster spot of Clark Haggans three weeks ago. Haggans, who sat out the third game of a three-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy on Sunday, will likely be activated and added to the 49ers 53-man roster. The 13-year veteran was signed after backup outside linebacker Parys Haralson underwent season-ending surgery to repair a torn left triceps.
Bakhtiari has been released 10 times by NFL teams since 2008. As a result, the linebacker no longer has NFL practice-squad eligibility. He did not appear in a game for the 49ers this season.
The 49ers (4-1) will face the New York Giants on Sunday in a rematch of last year's NFC Championship game. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:25 p.m. PT at Candlestick Park and the game will be televised on FOX.
