San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith sprained his middle finger on his throwing hand against the Buffalo Bills, coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed in his post-game media conference on Sunday. However, the injury doesn't appear to be serious, according to Cam Iman of the MercuryNews.com.

Smith suffered the injury on his final pass attempt of the game to Vernon Davis, which ended up being incomplete.

Apart from the injury, Smith had an almost-perfect day, as he went 18-of-24 for 303 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-3 win over the Bills. Smith recorded a quarterback rating of 156.3 for the game and currently ranks first in the league among 33 eligible quarterbacks with a 108.7 rating for the season.

With the win, the 49ers improved to 4-1 on the year and into a tie for first with the Arizona Cardinals, who suffered their first loss of the season to the St. Louis Rams last Thursday. The 49ers will host the 3-2 New York Giants this Sunday.
