49ers vs. Bills score update: San Francisco leads 3-0

The San Francisco 49ers lead the Buffalo Bills 3-0 after the first quarter of play at Candlestick Park.

The 49ers have kept Buffalo's offense from establishing any sort of momentum. The Bills had just three first downs and 36 total yards. Quarterback Ryan Fitzgerald finished the quarter 4-6 for 30 yards, while running backs Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller combined for six yards on five carries.

San Francisco, meanwhile, put points on the board following a six-play, 79-yard drive that ended with a 19-yard field goal by kicker David Akers. San Francisco was able to move the ball down the field thanks to tight end Vernon Davis, who pulled in a 53 yard reception.

Quarterback Alex Smith is an efficient 5-6 for 101 passing yards. Running back Frank Gore has accumulated 31 yards on five carries.

Neither team has committed a turnover thus far in the low-scoring affair.
