49ers vs. Bills preview: San Francisco should be wary of overlooking another opponent

The San Francisco 49ers hoped to be 4-0 heading into three-straight games at Candlestick Park, but going 1-1 on a road trip that took them all the way to the opposite end of the country is still nothing to be upset about. Three of their first four games were on the road, and a 3-1 mark is a great start to the season no matter how you slice it.

Returning home on the back of a 34-0 shutout of the New York Jets is also pretty great for the 49ers. After just about everything went wrong against the Minnesota Vikings, the 49ers managed to go out and execute their gameplan and impose their will on the Jets exactly how they wanted to. While a mistake here or there is more-than expected, being able to follow your gameplan in every way boosts confidence for a team like no other.

The importance of the gameplan working doesn't just build confidence, it fosters more and more effort into practice. Players like the win, and when they see a gameplan perfectly executed en route to a win, they'll focus more on the upcoming team and how they can have them beat before the ball is ever kicked off.

Being nice about it, the Buffalo Bills have been very ... not good this season. Watching Ryan Fitzpatrick play quarterback this year is like watching any 49ers quarterback of ... basically, the last decade. Alex Smith from 2011 and 2012 is not the same as Alex Smith in any of the previous years so yes, he still counts.

Look for the 49ers to come out and attack from the get-go. It's unclear if the coaches and players overlooked the Vikings, who were thought to be an easy win for the 49ers, and you can bet that they'll be prepared for any shenanigans when the Bills come to town.
