This week was a down week for Bay Area football, as neither team was able to get a win. Oakland was manhandled by the Ravens and the Niners missed a field goal in overtime and eventually played to a tie with St. Louis, the first NFL tie game in four years. Let's look at who did well and who let their owners down.
STUD: Carson Palmer. The Ravens have a great defense, but when you cannot run the ball and have to constantly air it out, you put up numbers with quantity over quality. That's what Palmer did this week, completing 29/45 passes for 368 yards and two touchdowns. A very fantasy friendly day for Palmer despite the loss and one interception.
STUD: Denarius Moore. He caught four of Palmer's passes for 90 yards and a touchdown. That's an average of over 20 yards a reception, and a great fantasy score for a receiver.
STUD: Frank Gore. The Rams defensive line played out of their minds, but Gore was beastly, churning his legs on every carry for extra yardage as he plowed his way to 97 yards and a score. With the injury to Alex Smith, Gore was needed to step up and he definitely did.
STUD: Michael Crabtree. He just keeps getting better and better and may be considered a WR2 candidate next season. He caught five passes for 70 yards and a touchdown.
And here are the guys who disappointed.
DUD: Vernon Davis. After Smith went down he was barely targeted, and the one pass he got thrown his way was badly off target. He finished with only 30 yards, and that's not really on him. The whole game plan changed with Colin Kaepernick at the helm. Kaep proved himself able, but obviously lacks the rapport with the receivers that Alex Smith has.
DUD: Raiders and Niners defense. The Raider collapse was expected because the game was played on the East coast but the Niners should in no way have allowed 24 points to a gawdawful Rams team. A very disappointing effort from both units.
