Even after a busy offseason so far, the San Francisco 49ers still have 14 draft picks in the 2013 NFL Draft. As the Super Bowl runner-up, their first pick won't come until No. 31 overall, however, which is about when surprising names start popping up more frequently on draft boards.
Rutgers cornerback Logan Ryan probably isn't a household name in many circles, but he may be a perfect fit for an unsettled Niners secondary, according to SB Nation's Matthew Fairburn. Ryan is San Francisco's pick at No. 31 in Fairburn's latest mock draft.
Logan Ryan has the upside to land in the first round. He plays the game with a physical edge and seems to fit the 49ers' philosophy on defense. Should he be available at this pick, San Francisco should take a long look.
Ryan is Fairburn's fourth cornerback off the draft board, behind Alabama's Dee Milliner, Florida State's Xavier Rhodes and Washington's Desmond Trufant. Ryan is known for his physicality. He is strong at the line of scrimmage and has shown a willingness to take on all comers in run defense. Ryan's pure athleticism may not quite meet the caliber of those who will likely be selected ahead of him, but as a pure football player there may not be many better.
