With scouting combine in everyone's rear view mirror, the 2013 NFL Draft is fast approaching. At this point, the film has been seen and the forties have been clocked, so for the most part, the draft boards are pretty much set. Between now and April, universities will be holding their individual pro days, but nothing should tilt the board too dramatically.
More: Mocking the Draft and Niners Nation
On Monday, March 4, Rob Rang of CBS Sports released his updated mock draft. He projected all of the picks in Round 1, which included Alabama Crimson Tide defensive lineman Jesse Williams to the San Francisco 49ers at 31st overall.
Depth on the defensive line is a top priority for San Francisco this year. They are preparing to replace Isaac Sopoaga and perhaps Ricky Jean-Francois, while bracing themselves for the inevitable departure of Justin Smith. Although many would point to their defensive line as a strength, it will be in transition starting in 2013.
Rang's mock selection of Williams to the 49ers makes a lot of sense.
NFL draft analyst Mike Mayock has six defensive tackles with first-round grades in this year's draft, which puts San Francisco in a great position to get value at the position. Although very talented, Williams has been a forgotten name amongst stars like Sharrif Floyd, Star Lotulelei, Jonathan Jenkins and Sheldon Richardson.
If Williams falls to the 31st overall pick, San Francisco should not hesitate to add this youngster to the lineup.
