NFC Championship game 2013 schedule: 49ers travel to Atlanta

Colin Kaepernick is the key to the San Francisco 49ers fortunes.

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons in Sunday's NFC Championship game. It's a case of an upstart team experiencing success quickly, versus a veteran squad who have faltered too many times in the playoffs. Now, the Falcons have self-belief after beating the Seattle Seahawks -- but it may not be enough to pull them through.

Colin Kaepernick will be the key to a 49ers victory on Sunday. The Atlanta Falcons have shown an inability to stop mobile quarterbacks this season, struggling against the likes of Cam Newton, and last week against Russell Wilson. Their problem is their safety positions, who haven't been able to offer run support to middle linebackers. Atlanta could have success if they use outside linebacker Sean Weatherspoon to spy the quarterback, and cover the middle -- but if they leave Colin Kaepernick free again, they could see the same problems the Green Bay Packers had last week.
