2012 U.S. Open Results: Serena Williams Wins Championship Over Victoria Azarenka

Serena Williams claimed the fourth U.S. Open championship of her career on Sunday afternoon in Flushing Meadows, defeating No. 1 Victoria Azarenka in three sets. Williams won the first set 6-2 and dropped the second 2-6. After trailing Azarenka 5-3 in the third and final set, Williams rallied behind the support of the capacity crowd and won 7-5.

Williams' serve was strong throughout most the day, although a couple of double faults did not help her chances late. Her forehand continued to be her strongest option, often hitting balls all across the back line. Azarenka did a nice job of pacing herself throughout the match and was two points away from a championship at one point, but she simply could not overcome Serena on this day.

The men's championship match is scheduled for Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET. It'll be No. 2 Novak Djokovic vs. No. 3 Andy Murray.
