After a disappointing loss to Nevada to begin the season, the California Golden Bears will look to rebound this week when they host Southern Utah on Saturday.
The Bears got off to a rough start against Nevada, falling behind 14-0 after the first quarter. Part of the reason for Cal's slow start was starting quarterback Zach Maynard sat out the first three offensive series as punishment for missing a tutoring session.
The Bears will attempt to get off to a better start this week against a Southern Utah team coming off a 34-3 loss to Utah State. Southern Utah struggled both offensively and defensively in their season opener, allowing 581 yards and 28 first downs while only gaining 209 total yards.
Saturday will be Cal's final home game before they go on the road for back-to-back games against top 15 schools. The Bears will travel to No. 14 Ohio State next week before opening Pac-12 play on the road against No. 2 USC the week after. Coming off a tough loss and with two big games on the horizon, the Bears will be challenged to not overlook Southern Utah on Saturday.
