Brandon Inge Season Placed On DL, Shoulder Surgery Will End Season

The Oakland Athletics have placed third baseman Brandon Inge on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder. It appears that this is not as far as it'll go, as A's beat reporter Jane Lee reports it's a precursor to season-ending shoulder surgery next week. It's the second time this month that Inge has dislocated his shoulder, which was the precursor to being sent to the DL.

Inge is 35 years old and has been hitting okay from the plate, with splits of .218/.275/.383, piling up 12 home runs and a .658 OPS with 331 plate appearances. In 74 games with the A's, Inge had 11 homers with .222 batting average, a .286 OBP and a .389 slugging percentage. Inge signed with the A's on April 29th after being released by the Detroit Tigers and might have seen his last action with the team, as he will be a free agent this offseason.
