2012 BMW Championship, Leaderboard Update: Ian Poulter Surges Ahead, Tiger Woods Close Behind

As the first round of the 2012 BMW Championship gets underway on Thursday, a number of notable names find themselves atop the leaderboard early on at Crooked Stick.

Ian Poulter and Bo Van Pelt have come out on fire, each sitting at 5-under after front nine scores of 31. Tiger Woods is just one shot behind them after his first seven holes of the day, tied for third place with Zach Johnson and Jimmy Walker.

Fedex Cup points leader Rory McIlroy is 3-under through six holes of his first round, tied with Adam Scott, Jim Furyk, Ryan Palmer, Webb Simpson and Tom Gills. The leaderboard remains tight as the lowest score so far today is 2-over, meaning the entire field is within seven shots of the lead on day one.
