After a busy day Wednesday, Thursday will be a relatively quiet day at the 2012 U.S. Open with only two singles matches scheduled.
Both women's and one men's semifinal matches were set on Wednesday, leaving just two men's quarterfinal matches on Thursday's schedule. In the early match, scheduled to begin sometime after 10:30 a.m. PT, No. 4 David Ferrer will take on No. 8 Janko Tipsarevic. Tipsarevic knocked off No. 19 Philipp Kohlschreiber on Wedneday, while Ferrer was able to complete his fourth-round match Tuesday before rain forced several delays. We'll have to wait and see if the extra day of rest gives Ferrer an advantage.
In the other quarterfinal match, No. 2 Novak Djokovic will face No. 7 Juan Martin del Potro. Djokovic won the first two sets against No. 18 Stanislas Wawrinka on Wednesday and was leading 3-1 in the third set before Wawrinka retired due to illness. The winner of Thursday's match will go on to face the winner between Ferrer and Tipsarevic in the semifinals.
Television coverage of Thursday's singles matches will be available on ESPN2, beginning at 9 a.m. PT. Matches can also be streamed live online at the U.S. Open official site.
