Parys Haralson Injury: 49ers Place LB On IR

The San Francisco 49ers have placed linebacker Parys Haralson on injured reserve, effectively ending his season. To compensate for the loss of Haralson, the Niners signed Clark Haggans to a one-year contract.

Haralson probably sustained the injury during a preseason contest against the Denver Broncos. After he engaged a blocker, Haralson pointed to his left arm and left the game soon thereafter. There are a number of injuries in play here, but it was clearly serious enough to end his season.

How does the loss of Haralson effect the 49ers going forward? David Fucillo of Niners Nation elaborates.

The 49ers head into the regular season with Aldon Smith and Ahmad Brooks starting at outside linebacker. Haggans played 75% of defensive snaps while with the Arizona Cardinals last year. Demarcus Dobbs could potentially get some playing time at outside linebacker as well. Whatever the case, the team is left scrambling to a certain extent, and dealing with potentially limited depth. Let's just hope Brooks and Smith can stay healthy.

Haralson has spent his entire career with the 49ers since being drafted by the team in the 5th round in 2006. He had 30 tackles and two sacks last year during the regular season, along with forcing three fumbles. He has over 200 tackles for his career with the 49ers.

Haggans is an old NFL vet; at 35 years old he's racked up 502 tackles in his career, along with 46.5 sacks, one pick, 16 forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and 24 passes defended.
