San Jose State vs. Navy final: Spartans win 12-0

The San Jose State Spartans have won their fourth straight game after shutting out the Navy Midshipmen, 12-0, in Annapolis, Md., Saturday. The Spartans shut down the Navy option attack, holding them to just 70 yards on 38 carries.

The Spartans drove into Navy territory consistently throughout the game, but failed to cash in their drives for touchdowns. All the scoring came from kicker Austin Lopez, who was 4-4 on the day.

Navy's best scoring chance came on the first drive of the game. The Midshipmen drove deep into Spartan territory before quarterback Trey Miller fumbled the ball away.

San Jose state quarterback David Fales completed 29-of-34 passes for 276 yards. His favorite receiver was Ryan Otten, who caught eight balls for 94 yards.

Navy was out-gained 388 to 144 as they fell to 1-3 on the year. San Jose State moves to 4-1 before it heads into WAC play.

Box Score Hero: Lopez wins this award, as the only player to put points on the board with his four field goals.

Rankings Ramifications: The Spartans received two votes in the Coaches Poll this week, and they will likely receive more on Sunday.

But Did They Cover? San Jose State was favored by 1½ points, so they covered easily.

Next Week's Schedule: The Spartans have a week off before hosting Utah State Oct. 13. Navy heads to Air Force next Saturday at 11:30 a.m. ET.
