Tiger Woods began the final event of the FedEx Cup Championship like he wanted to unseat points leader Rory McIlroy, and after Thursday's first round of play at THE TOUR Championship, Woods finds himself tied with England's Justin Rose at 4-under par.
Hitting a 52-foot birdie put on the 18th hole, Rose tied Woods in dramatic fashion to close out the first day at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. Rose played well on the back nine, securing three birdies.
Woods, who is second in the FedEx Cup points standings, opened THE TOUR with first place on his mind. He has a good jump on McIlroy, who struggled in the 30-man field by shooting a 1-under.
Even worse off is Sacramento-born Nick Watney, who is in last place at 5-over par.
