The San Jose Earthquakes fell behind 2-0 before rallying in the second half to tie the game in stoppage time to draw with the Portland Timbers 2-2. Chris Wondolowski scored both of the goals for San Jose, who improved to 17-6-6 on the season and stayed ahead of Kansas City for most points in the standings. Portland's record is now 7-14-8.
Wondolowski came in the game with the 58th minute and struck 15 minutes later. Steven Lenhart managed a good touch on the ball to find Wondolowski for the first San Jose goal on the 73rd minute. A failed clearance by Portland defender Hanyer Mosquera led to Wondolowski's equalizing header.
Danny Mwanga scored the two goals for Portland in the 45th and the 62nd minutes. Mwanga fought off the challenge from San Jose's Victor Bernardez to score the first goal, and then added a 25-yard blast to seemingly put Portland in a dominant position to win.
