Injuries have forced the Oakland Raiders to make some changes to the roster prior to their Week 2 matchup with the Miami Dolphins. Oakland sent wide receiver Jacoby Ford on season-ending injured reserve, and they placed cornerback Ron Bartell on the NFL's new injured reserve list that allows him to return later in the season.
In addition to those moves, the Raiders promoted cornerback Coye Francies and long-snapper Nick Guess from the practice squad.
Ford, who injured his foot in a preseason game, underwent surgery Tuesday. Bartell was injured in the season opener against San Diego and will miss significant time with a fractured shoulder blade. Under the new IR rules, he is eligible to return to practice Oct. 27 and could play as soon as Nov. 11, when the Raiders travel to face the Baltimore Ravens.
Raiders starting long snapper Jon Condo is still out with a concussion, and backup Travis Goethel proved he wasn't up to the task with the two ground balls he snapped in Week 1. Guess is unproven, but the team likely figures he can't be worse than Goethel.
