U.S. Open 2012 Scores: Serena Williams, Roger Federer Continue Dominance

Roger Federer and Serena Williams continued the trend of short matches at Arthur Ashe Stadium as they posted straight-set victories in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., Saturday afternoon.

The men's No. 1, Federer, defeated No. 25 Fernando Verdasco 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Federer was dominant at the net, winning 25 of 26 possible points. He moves on to face the winner the match between Mardy Fish and Gilles Simon in the fourth round.

Williams needed just 1:20 to dispatch Ekaterina Marakova of Russia, 6-4, 6-0. She will see the winner of Maria Kirilenko and Andrea Hlavackova next.

Andy Murray was tested in his third-round match by No. 30 Feliciano Lopez. The two men went to a tiebreak on three occasions, with Murray winning all three to prevail in a nearly four-hour, four-set match.

San Francisco native Sam Querrey will play later today at Louis Armstrong Stadium. He will try to advance against Tomas Berdych.
