As the San Francisco Giants were eyeing a rare series victory in St. Louis against the Cardinals, Adam Wainwright and Carlos Beltran had other ideas, leading the way to a 3-1 Red Birds' victory at Busch Stadium on Thursday.
Beltran took Madison Bumgarner (L 12-7) in the first inning to quickly make it 2-0 Cards, his 27th dinger of the year, and it didn't get much better after that for the Black and Orange. Marco Scutaro earned himself another RBI in the series with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, but that was all the Giants offense could muster.
Allen Craig's sacrifice fly in the sixth gave St. Louis a two-run cushion, and that was all she wrote for San Francisco.
Bumgarner would depart after six solid innings, allowing all three runs on just three hits, along with seven strikeouts and one walk. As for Wainwright (W 10-10), he was lights out in his seven innings of work, allowing just the one run on five hits and three walks. He too stuck out seven.
The Giants return home to AT&T Park this weekend for a three game set against the Colorado Rockies, starting Friday at 7:15 p.m. PT.
