London 2012 Olympics: Maggie Steffens Leads Team USA To Gold Medal Game

That would not have been good.

The USA women's water polo team had to bail out their coach, Adam Krikorian, to win 11-9 over Australia in an overtime game that should have never come to that point.

Krikorian called a timeout when the Australians had the ball with one second left but you are unable to call timeouts without possession of the ball in water polo. It led to the Australians tying the game on a penalty shot due to the error.

But 19-year-old phenom Maggie Steffens scored with 1:24 left in the first overtime and Kami Craig scored as well to give the Americans an 11-9 win.

Steffens, who attends Stanford, is one of the stars of the Olympics and led the Americans to a win over their heated rival in the Australians. Australia can only play for a bronze now as the Americans look to secure a gold medal in the event.
