2012 Barclays: Northern California Native Nick Watney Shares Lead Going Into Weekend

Sacramento native Nick Watney will enter Saturday's third round at The Barclays with a share of the 36-hole lead along with Sergio Garcia at 8-under for the tournament after a second round 69.

Lurking close behind is FedEx Cup points leader and world No. 3 Tiger Woods.

Watney's roller-coaster second round of 2-under included four bogeys, four birdies, and an eagle on the par 5 fourth to give him a share of the lead along with Garcia.

Woods was in obvious discomfort as he walked gingerly throughout the day and grimaced after several tee shots. He managed a 2-under 69 on the par 71 Black Course at Bethpage State Park that included two bogeys and four birdies on the day.

His playing partner, world No. 1 Rory McIlroy, didn't fare as well and struggled to a 2-over 73 on the day. He would finish at even par through two rounds, narrowly making the cut, which was at +1.

Woods, the former world No. 1, battled lower-back issues throughout the day but managed to fight through the injury enough to remain within striking distance of the leaders.

Watney will tee off at 1:45 p.m. ET and will be paired with Sergio Garcia in the afternoon's final pairing in his quest to gain ground in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
