Smith was placed on the DL after straining his left hamstring in a game against the Toronto Blue Jays back on Aug. 2. If his rehab assignment goes according to plan, he could rejoin the Athletics later in the week when they take on the Minnesota Twins followed by the Tampa Bay Rays on Aug. 23.
Smith is in his first season with Oakland after playing for the Colorado Rockies from 2007-2011. He is batting .237 with 11 home runs, 39 RBIs and a .342 OBP.
