Perrish Cox Fights For Spot On Depth Chart

Even with the news that 49ers cornerback Perrish Cox will not be suspended by the NFL for his sexual assault case that occurred over 2010-2012, the second-year defender is still fighting an uphill battle to make San Francisco's final roster.

The most recent team depth chart had Cox as the third-string left corner behind Carlos Rogers and Tramaine Brock. While this may seem discouraging, Niners Nation is quick to point out that this list doesn't have a spot for the slot receiver coverage man when San Fran switches to their nickel formations. This is most likely where Cox will make his presence felt and luckily enough, it seems he's been able to catch the eye of the coaching staff so far.

There's no doubt Cox is talented enough to make the team. As a fifth-round rookie in 2010, Cox started nine games and showed some serious flashes of potential with 14 passes defended. Then again, there could be some rust with Cox sitting out all of the 2011-2012 season while battling his legal issues.

But as long as the former Oklahoma State Cowboy keeps his head down and learns a thing or two from Pro Bowler Carlos Rogers, he should have more than enough natural ability to find his niche in San Francisco.
