The Oakland Atheltics were shut out on Tuesday and suffered a hard-luck loss on Tuesday at Kaufman Stadium against the Kansas City Royals. Thankfully, they were able to avoid being swept as they managed to defeat the Royals by a final score of 3-0 on Thursday.
Starting pitchers Luke Hochevar and Dan Straily both held the game scoreless until the A's finally broke through in the sixth inning, when Coco Crisp hit what was reviewed and ruled to be his sixth home run of the year. In the seventh, Yoenis Cespedes hit a solo shot of his own, his 15th of the season, to make it 2-0. Jemile Weeks tacked on a big insurance run with an RBI single in the top of the eighth.
Straily held the Royals to just three hits and two walks in 6.1 innings of work to pick up his first major league win.
