The San Francisco 49ers, as they prepare to move from their longtime home at Candlestick Park to a new home in Santa Clara, announced Wednesday that they have a new founding partner for that stadium in data management company Violin Memory. The partnership between Violin and the Niners will be effective this season in Candlestick, the club announced.
Violin Memory will be the "exclusive data storage provider" of the 49ers and will have branding in the suite tower in exchange for helping build the technology infrastructure at the stadium, something that figures to be pretty important when all the coaches are sharing plays and information on iPads in the sideline at some point in the future (it will happen, trust me). Financial terms of the arrangement were not disclosed.
"The 49ers are creating strategic partnerships with some of the world's most innovative companies to showcase a world-class fan experience," said 49ers CEO Jed York in a statement. "Our major stadium partnerships are built on a platform of sustainability and technology. Violin Memory is one of the first Founding Partners and the company's flash Memory Array systems will be critical to achieving our goals."
The partnership announcement did not include the news for which most 49ers fans are anxiously waiting — what the stadium will be called. This partnership announcement likely assures it won't be called Violin Memory Stadium, but nothing else.
