San Francisco 49ers fans, this isn't very good news. That bruised hip for defensive end Aldon Smith, one of the top rookies in the NFL last season? It could be worse than originally thought.
See this tweet from CBS Sports 49ers correspondent Kyle Bonagura, who says he noticed Smith at the team facility Monday, using a cane and definitely limping.
Smith was injured in Friday night's preseason win over the Minnesota Vikings. He's expected to miss at least the next two preseason games, and with starters held out in the fourth game, would be ready for the regular-season opener next month.
All of that could still be the case, however it certainly has to be unsettling to see a pass-rush specialist that was key to the 49ers' defensive success last season limping and using a cane. Even if it might look kind of cool.
Smith had 14 sacks last season for the Niners, and added two more in the playoffs.
