Apparently Jets head coach Rex Ryan hasn't had his fill of Wildcat quarterbacks after publicly admitting his regret for not drafting 49ers' backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick Sunday, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.
Despite having already having a full blown quarterback controversy on his hands with Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow, Ryan went out of his way to share with the NFL that the Jets had legitimate interest in drafting Kaepernick back in 2011.
"Again, some people think the Wildcat has come and gone. No, it hasn't. If anything, it's just the opposite. I saw the kid from San Francisco, Kaepernick," Ryan said, via comments distributed by the team. "He runs a 4.4 or something. I was really intrigued by him when he came out because I thought we were going to lose Brad. [The 49ers] drafted him before we could, but I was interested in him. He went for a 70-yard touchdown run the other day. You're seeing these guys and it's hard to defend some of that stuff. When you have the ability to throw, as well as run, it makes it tough."
With Ryan being the character he is, it's difficult to determine if this was the fourth year head coach's way of setting trade discussions in motion or if it was just a moment of borderline-tampering honesty. Regardless, San Francisco has to love the fact that Ryan was this public with his love of the 6-foot-4 quarterback. It certainly can't hurt his trade value if that's a route they decide to consider down the road.
