While Aldon Smith's bruised hip injury wasn't nearly as severe as first estimated, the second year pass-rusher is still expected to miss the 49ers' final three preseason games, according to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com.
Head Coach Jim Harbaugh has already ruled to keep Smith out of Saturday's game against the Houston Texans and it also seems "unlikely" that he'll play in the August 26 exhibition against the Denver Broncos. And with the final game of the preseason commonly being the one in which coaches tend to rest all if not most of their starters, it seems like San Francisco may just choose to play if safe with the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year runner up.
Tight end Delanie Walker was also bit by the injury bug Sunday afternoon, sustaining a right knee injury that forced him to spend most of practice riding the pine while he iced the ailment. Harbaugh suggested that Walker's injury wont keep him out for any sort of extended period of time and was confident again that the team had dodged "another bullet."
