Tiger Woods didn't win the 2012 PGA Championship after a pretty pedestrian finish this weekend, but he still made out with a great payday. He finished in 11th place and managed to grab $143,286 for his efforts.
When there's a tie, prize money is pooled and dispersed. For example, if there's a four-way tie for second, the second-, third-, fourth- and fifth-place prizes are combined, then divided by four. Each player then takes home their share of that money. So because Woods finished in a tie for 11th, he split up
John Daly was the other Bay Area golfer to win money with $99,867 overall after finishing 18th. Charlie Wi, Mitch Lowe, Nick Watney and Spencer Levin didn't earn money, as all these remaining Bay Area golfers missed the cut. Rory McIlroy earned top dollar with $1,445,000 big prize for finishing first.
