The biggest fear for NFL teams every August is that they'll lose a star player to injury during training camp. Not more than an hour into the San Francisco 49ers' first preseason game of the season, linebacker Aldon Smith began limping badly and was carted into the locker room.
Not a whole lot is known about the injury at this time, although many are speculating it is a hip issue. Smith broke his leg at Mizzou during the 2010 college season, but he's been relatively healthy other than that.

It goes without saying that losing Smith for any period of time would be a huge blow to the 49ers defense. He emerged as one of the best pass rushers in the game last season as a rookie, and the sky is the limit as far as his potential goes.
