Sunday was a wild day for NASCAR, and a wilder day for Bay Area drivers in particular. AJ Allmendinger failed a pre-race substance abuse test and was pulled from the race. Penske Racing replaced Allmendinger with Sam Hornish Jr. in the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway.
As if that weren't enough, Jeff Burton was running well until being involved in a big wreck on Lap 153 of 160. Denny Hamlin was responsible for the crash and Gordon was unable to finish any better than 12th place. Time is running out for Gordon to hope to make the cutoff for the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
Tony Stewart took the checkered flag for his third win of the season, edging out points leader Matt Kenseth and Greg Biffle. Stewart crossed the finish line ahead of one final big wreck out of Turn 4 on the final lap.
