2012 American Century Championships: Celebrities Return To Edgewood At Lake Tahoe

The American Century Championship returns to Edgewood Lake Tahoe for another three days of fun in the sun with your favorite athletes and celebrities.

When it comes to celebrity sporting events, there may not be any better than the American Century Championship, as the 23rd annual golf tournament at Lake Tahoe's beautiful Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course July 17-22.

Many a Bay Area sport celebrity will be taking part in the event, including San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith, Niners legend Jerry Rice, Oakland Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer and kicker Sebastian Janikowski, Raiders legend Tim Brown Bay Area native and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Names like Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, John Elway, Oscar De La Hoya, Ray Romano and many more of your favorite actors and athletes will be taking part in the event as well. Actor Jack Wagner won the event last year.

The tournament is a 54-hole event, utilizing a modified stableford scoring system. There is a $600,000 purse in total, with first place getting $125,000, second place gets $50,000, and third place gets $35,000. All money will be donated to charity. Full player list can be found here.

Play begins on Friday and runs through Sunday, and will be televised live on the NBC Network from 1-4 p.m. PT each day.
