NASCAR At Indianapolis Results 2012: Jeff Gordon Finishes Fifth, Now Running Short On Time

Jeff Gordon needed a win on Sunday in the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He didn't get one. The cutoff for the chase for the Sprint Cup keeps drawing closer and Gordon needs at least two wins to stay alive. He now has one less race to make that happen. Although Gordon finished in fifth place on Sunday, it is still considered a disappointing finish considering the stakes. Gordon is currently 15th in the overall Sprint Cup Series points standings.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is the new overall points leader after finishing fourth on Sunday. This is the first time in eight years that Earnhardt, Jr. has led the standings.

The big winner on Sunday was Jimmie Johnson, who captured the checkered flag by holding off Kyle Busch and now sits in fourth place in the standings.
