Team USA finished third in the Women's 4x100m Freestyle Relay event, losing out to Australia, who takes home the gold, and the Netherlands, who took Silver. Former California Golden Bear Natalie Coughlin will earn a Bronze Medal, having participated in a terrific heat in the qualifying rounds. It is her 12th medal, tying her with Jenny Thompson for the most Olympic medals won by a woman record.
Fellow Golden Bear Jessica Hardy will also take home a Bronze, she was the second leg in the final heat. Missy Franklin was the first leg of the relay, and Team USA was ahead after Hardy and Franklin. Lia Neal and Allison Schmitt finished things up, and the US athletes were unable to match a finishing effort by Australia and The Netherlands. The relay was Coughlin's only event, but Hardy will continue on to compete in the Women's 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle and 4x100m Medley Relay.
