The 2012 Tour de France spanned from June 30 to July 22 and was anything but dull. This year's edition of cycling's grandest race had just about everything you could expect, including mountains beyond classification, massive 100-rider crashes and even someone throwing tacks across the route, causing multiple punctures.
When the final ride down the Champs-Elysees took place on Sunday, the official decision was all but sewn up. That didn't make it any less exciting, however, when Bradley Wiggins and Team Sky picked up the victory, making Wiggins the first Briton to win the general classification and take home the yellow jersey. He won by over three minutes over his Team Sky teammate, Chris Froome.
Wiggins was able to hold off his chief competition, returning champion Cadel Evans, who came up short on attacks again and again and bled time thanks to the aggressive and unyielding riding of Team Sky. Froome may very well have his own team riding in support of him in the Tour one day, but over the course of 20 stages this year, he rode selflessly in support of his captain and winner, Bradley Wiggins.
