2012 Tour De France Results: Thomas Voeckler Claims 16th Stage

As the 2012 Tour de France continues on, Frenchman Thomas Voeckler won the 16th stage of the Tour de France over four huge climbs in the Pyrenees mountains on Wednesday, moving himself that much closer to the yellow jersey.

Voeckler dominated the 123-mile course from Pau to Bagneres-de-Luchon, leading the charge on a breakaway for his second stage victory of the Tour after claiming Stage 10 as well.

"Every one of the mountain passes was a race for me," said Voeckler, who captured the polka dot jersey for the best climber from Fredrik Kessiakoff of Sweden. "I did what many young riders dream of doing - leading everyone over all four summits."

It was not as good of news for defending champion Cadel Evans, who dropped out of title contention after starting the day 4th overall. The Australian native struggled mightily on the last two climbs, falling back enough to be essentially out of the race.

Bradley Wiggins continued to wear the yellow jersey, even gaining a little ground on the rest of the field.
