The Bay Area's Sam Querrey advanced to the second round of Wimbledon on Tuesday with a 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-4, hard-fought victory over Jaroslav Pospisil.
The 24-year-old brought his up-and-down seasonal record back to .500 (12-12) with the win. Querrey adds another victory to a great day for California as Serena Williams and Mardy Fish both one their matches as well, a day after Vania King and Venus Williams both bowed out early by losing in their own first round matches.
Querrey is just looking to possibly make some noise on the big stage and improve his world standing. As of now, he is the 64th-ranked player in the world but doesn't have any singles titles to his credit this season.
