Several Bay Area swimmers participated in the first day of action at the 2012 Olympic Trials in Omaha. Here are the results for the top performers.
Dana Vollmer of Cal moved one step closer to qualifying for London by finishing first in qualifying in the semifinals of the 100 meter butterfly. Both Elaine Breeden of Stanford (2nd) and Natalie Coughlin (4th) also made their way to the finals, which will take place tomorrow at Tuesday.
In the 400 meter IM finals, Cal senior Caitlin Leverenz put up a career-best time to earn the trip to London, finishing second to Elizabeth Biesel of Florida.
In the 100 meter breaststroke, Scott Weltz from San Jose finished second in the semifinals behind Brendan Hansen, and will now try and secure a bid to London by finishing in the top three Tuesday night.
